Life, while caregiving

I have learned to create a life of my own, while caregiving for Grandma. At first, making sure Grandma was happy took all my extra time and energy. When her condition and needs leveled off, I took the chance to create some balance in my life. I really understood that if I kept up at the pace I was working at my caregiving duties I would soon burn out, as it started to negatively impacted my health. Things come up that need to be handled with Grandma, but I don't take all my energy to...

Making time for grandma

For the past few months I have become the sole family member making sure that my grandma has what she needs throughout the week. Other family members are paying the bills, which are many. The impact of caregiving

The process of relocating my grandmother and getting her settled into a safe and satisfying environment has been exhausting and life altering. It has forced me to look at my role in the family and figure out which responsibilities are mine and which are not. I have had to deal with feeling guilty about what I can contribute and how I choose to spend my time. I am having to find a balance between giving my grandmother the love and support she needs, while not having my husband and son lose out...

I love my Geriatric Care Manager!

The Geriatric Care Manager continues to be an amazing resource for my family even after the initial meeting. She provided websites and phone numbers of agencies and facilities that were needed in order to relocate my grandmother. Each time we feel like we hit a roadblock in the process, instead of falling apart, we know that help was only a phone call away. The Care Manager provides clarity, support, and assistance to my family. Her services have been the platform from which we were able to...
