Mom's house, and glue

My mom passed away a year ago, yet I still refer to my parent's house as "mom's house." It doesn't seem fair to dad. When we go over to see my dad, I still say "let's go to Mom's house." My mom was the glue of the family. The nine kids in our family got together around mom. Since her passing, we have fallen away in a way that we hadn't before. We seem to live more separate lives now. Hiring Caregivers

Remember to fully check out caregivers before hiring them to work in your home.  www.AgingPro.com has a great article about this, and write us if you have questions.  Check out the agency, if they are licensed, bonded, insured and background checked.  Make a list of expectations, so everyone is on the same page.  Best not to have caregivers live-in over 4-5 days in a row or else they tend to "move in" and can take over an older person's home. Split the week between two caregivers on 24 hour...

Tell Congress Your Wishes for Healthcare Reform 4-6 to 20

Congress will be in recess [technically called "district work period"] for the next two weeks [through April 20.]  Most members will spend at least some of this period in their local offices.  Now would be a great time to let them know what you want included when health care reform legislation is drafted. Preliminary work on the health care reform legislation is underway.  It is expected that this topic will become quite active when Congress returns to DC in two weeks.  [I've seen a...

Relating to Housing
9 comments

For the first time in history, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today released quality ratings for each of the nation’s 15,800 nursing homes that participate in Medicare or Medicaid.    Facilities are assigned star ratings from a low of one star to a high of five stars based on health inspection surveys, staffing information, and quality of care measures. The ratings are publicly available on the agency’s Nursing Home Compare Web site at www.medicare.gov.
