Since 1984, Dr. Cheryl Mathieu has been devoted to community service, elder advocacy, and assisting seniors in creating the experience of life they want.
Dr. Mathieu’s passion for serving the elderly awakened as she assisted both of her grandmothers with their goals of remaining independent and enjoying the best quality of life possible as they aged. She gained an intimate, up-close experience of the physical challenges of aging, the drive to maintain independence, the difficulty of navigating the “systems,” and the overall vulnerability of seniors in our societal structure. She saw first-hand that healing of relationships is possible, and the profound difference loving assistance can make to seniors and their families.
This compelled Dr. Mathieu to formalize her specialized training in gerontology and aging. She subsequently earned a Master in Social Work degree from California State University, Long Beach, a Doctorate in Social Work from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and a Master of Spiritual Science degree from Peace Theological Seminary. She has also earned the designation of Care Manager, Certified (CMC) issued by the National Academy of Certified Care Managers.
Dr. Mathieu expanded her range of experience by working in a variety of positions in a multitude of settings. These include in- and out-patient geriatric psychiatry, hospital social work and discharge planning, hospice, non-profit community based organization work, individual and group therapy, and private practice geriatric care management. She is the owner of Ultimate Senior Care Solutions, a professional training, coaching, and geriatric care management organization based in Long Beach, CA, and the founder of AgingPro.com.
Service has been a cornerstone of Dr. Mathieu’s life. The love of people and a genuine understanding, compassion and caring for the elderly make her a strong advocate for those she serves. The combination of extensive academic training and broad service experience have provided Dr. Mathieu a strong foundation upon which to stand as a specialist in issues related to aging and the life cycle.
